A week tour to Romania, starting and finishing in Sibiu, which includes visits of famous castles, unique architecture and remote villages. You explore south east Transylvania, famous for its Saxon architecture and culture.

Day 1: Arriving in Sibiu. Transfer to your central hotel 4*. Time to spent in Sibiu, to admire the old architecture in the Large Square and the Small Square. The Lutheran church and its crypt is not to be missed! Sibiu is preparing for the big event of 2007, when this city will be the Cultural Capital of Europe, together with Luxembourg.
Day 2: Visit the area near Sibiu, including Saxon villages and traditional Romanian villages in Marginimea Sibiului. Private lunch with families. Dinner independent. Same overnight accommodation in a 4* central hotel.
Day 3: Drive to Brasov, passing picturesque villages with scenic views over Fagaras mountains. Picnic lunch. Visit Bran Castle, built in 1377. Since 1920 the castle has become the summer residence of Queen Marie of Romania, the grand-daughter of Queen Victoria of England. The castle is strangely linked to Count Dracula, even if it is doubtful that Vlad the Impaler ever spent the night here Overnight accommodation in Brasov in a 3* central hotel.
Day 4: Visit the center of Brasov, a Saxon fortress, often compared with old towns in Poland and Czeck Republic. We climb a little hill to the White Tower where you can have a stunning panorama of the old stronghold and from here we start our tour in the old center, visiting the Council Square and the famous Black Church Drive 1 hour south of Brasov to visit Peles Casle - a royal palace built as a summer residence for the first king of Romania, Carol I. The castle was built between 1875 and 1883 in a German Renaissance style. Lunch in Sinaia. Dinner independent. Same overnight accommodation in Brasov, in the 3* central hotel.
Day 5: 1 ½ drive to Viscri, a remote village with a beautiful 12th century fortified church and wonderful restored houses. Viscri is the headquarter of Mihai Eminescu Trust (English-Romanian trustee aims to preserve the villages fabric, remedy their loss of income and revive their sense of community. The Trust helps the inhabitants to develop new sources of revenue and the restore their houses with sympathetic use of traditional materials). Time to spend in the village. Lunch in the village. After lunch we drive to Sighisoara, considered to be the most beautiful and complete medieval architectural assemble of Romania and the most beautiful inhabited citadel throughout Europe. Sighisoara is also the birth place of Vlad the Impaler, connected according Bram Stoker’s novel with Count Dracula. The medieval citadel is perched on a hillock and is fortified with a 14th century wall. Dinner independent. Overnight accommodation in a 3* hotel right on the main square in Sighisoara.
Day 6: Day to explore the villages near Sighisoara. We visit Malancrav village and its impressive surviving paintings. Pay a visit to the rug and curtains weaver in the village. Visit Biertan, considered to be among the most fantastic Saxon heritage in Transylvania. The fortified church is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site. Private lunch in a Saxon village with families. Return for overnight accommodation in Sighisoara. Dinner independent.
Day 7: Transfer to Sibiu for your flight. 2 ½ hours drive.
